The cultural center of Roatan, Sandy Bay houses the Institute of Marine Sciences , Roatan Museum, the Carambola Gardens and Marine Reserve. As its name implies, this small community is located on a sandy bay. Irrespective of whether one is planning to spend his or her vacation on Roatan in this part of the island or not, one should definitely pay a visit to the area. The renowned Anthony's Key Resort is located here. The Roatan Museum is open to public from Tuesday to Thursday with an entrance fee of 5 USD for everyone except for the guest at the resort. Dolphin encounter shows are regularly hosted at the Institute of Marine Sciences daily at 4:00 pm apart from Wednesdays. The only windsurf school in Honduras is located here on Sandy Bay. The Sandy Bay with its steady tradewinds, calm reef protected waters and easy access makes it a wonderful place to learn and practice the windsurfing sport.
