Coxen Hole
Coxen Hole is the largest city and the capital of the department of the Bay Islands. It is the most important city from a political perspective. The city is not much abundant with tourist attractions but the rich Afro-antellean influence lends a unique atmosphere to this community. Coxen Hole also serves as the main gateway to Roatan. The Airport is situated on the east of Coxen Hole and the Cruise ship dock is situated on the western part of the town. Most of the souvenir shops are located in Coxen Hole. Regular bus and van services are organised leading both east towards French Harbour and Oakridge as well as towards Sandy Bay and West End. Bank services are provided by banks such as Banco BGA, Banco BAC-Credomatic and Banco Atlantida.
All of these banks offices are located in Coxen Hole and their services include cash advances on the visa card. However there is no bank in the West End except for two ATM machines that are located in the West End. Banks are open between 8:30 am to 11:30 am and between 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday. On Saturdays the banks are open only during the mornings. Banco BAC-Credomatic has an ATM machine beside the office from which cash withdrawals from the credit card is possible.
The Cay View hotel located downtown and the Bellavista Hotel located on the old road towards the West End offer the best bargain as far as hotels in the city are concerned. The best place for tourist information is the Libreria Casi Todo/ Que Tal Café with internet facilites located at the entrance to the city from West End/ Sandy Bay. Among the souvenir shops in Coxen Hole, Yaba Ding Ding is the shop selling souvenirs of original and outstanding quality. It is worth a visit. The Ferry dock and passenger terminal is situated halfway between Coxen Hole and French Harbour. It consists of a modern building equipped with first class service with an in house cafeteria, air conditioning and large, roomy clean toilets. Taxis are easily available according to scheduled times, thus getting to destinations are convenient.
