Prince Albert Wreck Roatan

Prince Albert Wreck

This is a highly interesting wreck to explore. Prince Albert was an island cargo carrier which sank somewhere around 1987. Years of underwater growth covers the 140 foot hull. Numerous species of fish habitate the cave like structure making it their homes. On the southeastern side of Roatan lies this marvellous Prince Albert Wreck. Situated on the western side of the point of entryof the channel and close to the fringing reef, she is sunk in a vertical position. She is propped in 85 feet of the water on the gradient white sandy bottom. A mooring buoy is present from where one may swim a few yards towards the south to locate the wreck. Depending upon the kind of tide, visibility of the wreck may range from mediocre to excellent. Entering the wreck is possible through most openings and no lights are needed to enter the wreck. In the interior of the wreck, thousands of silversides float about.

Other fishes like Wrasses and other bottom living living fishes can be spotted here. Upon looking carefully, one may encounter spiny oysters and from the hull of the structure, algae growth and soft corals bulge out lending the wreck a certain type of old granduer. Silversides float together in large schools forming a gleaming display of uniform flowing movements for the watcher. A colony of garden eels can be found close to the wreck and to top it all with a bonus in the area, is a DC – 3 airplane which can also be checked out.
