Doc's Dive Roatan
An amusing mini-wall made up of different variety of coral formations, canyons, overhangs and mini-caves is what characterises Doc's Dive. It is one of the several sites situated on the east of French Harbour and within the landward side of the fringing reef. This is an apt spot for an exceptional dive both during calm and heavy seas. The top of the reef beginsat 30 feet of water and drops down to about 110-120 feet. A mooring buoy is present and during descent from the mooring line, one can float out to the wall and turn left keeping the wall to one's left. Fingerlike ravines form indentation on the wall from where soft corals waver in in sync with the current. Spotted eagle and sea turtles are regular sightings and anemones wait eagerly for their prey to get trapped in the entanglement of their tentacles.
If one may choose to navigate right at the wall, one will find a different view. Towards the right, close to the entry point of the wall, there is a kidney shaped opening by swimming into which one may find one's self in a small cave lighted by two beams of light. Inside this cave one may encounter lobsters, crabs and other marine life that favour the dark. Angel fish, wrasses, triggerfish, trumpetfish, parrotfish, damsels, butterflyfish and groupers adorn the wall. This is absolutely a wonderful location for those interested in snorkeling adventure both for experienced and learning divers who prefer a site close to the shore brimming with marine life.
