Relocation of Union College Program to Bay Islands

The University of Nebraska had to conclude its three year long international program in Venezuela when 19 students with staff were placed under house arrest for three weeks in 2007. Union College has resolved to transfer its program to Bay Islands. They contrive to stay on the Bay Islands until the 22nd of April. Besides holding classes, they have volunteered on a number of community projects. As a part of a 15 page report, the students assessed shelter locations, medical supplies and warning systems for Utila. While the smallest of Bay Islands' has the best measures for a hurricane, few people recall the last time a hurricane hit the island. Three other municipalities may recieve similar assessments before the hurricane hits in 2008. For Union College students, the three month semester abroad is going to be a combination of classes, involving in local culture and setting up a community volunteering program. There are extra plans to furnish services in dire need on the Bay Islands . By August, Union College plans to send four emerency technical students with adequate resources to maintain an ambulance. The students will be required to stay for 9 – 10 months to work with and train local emergency operators located on the island.
