The beaches on utila
The island of Utila does not have numerous beaches but on the contrary, there are a number of tiny islands called keys or Cays (Caylitos), which are accessible by boats. Around 100 feet across and 1 – 2 feet above sea level, Utila is proud of its keys since it offers tourists a great deal of privacy and respite from over populated beaches around the world. Among the keys, the Pigeon or the Suc Suc and the Jewel Keys are populated consisting of the second largest community in Utila. Several hotels on these keys provide a comfortable stay with hot water, private bath and fans. Other keys like Bells Key, Southeast Key, Sandy Key and Morgan Key are privately owned with fine houses but most of these keys are available for rent.
The prettiest of all the keys is Water Key. It is uninhabited by the local population and is very popular for camping. This Key does not have basic facilities, thus, those visiting this key must take their own food, drinking water, camping gear etc. Water Keys offers safe camping and fantastic snorkeling off the windward side.
